Home > 8e6 Block Troubleshooting
OverviewHere are details to help troubleshoot unexpected 8e6 web filtering behavior.
Procedure
- check site in Library Lookup ( // Library tab // Library lookup)
- check workstation profile via Active Profile Lookup ( // system tab //
Diagnostics // Active Profile Lookup
- The results of active profile lookup typically give you understanding of
RULE with specific categories blocked/allowed. Basd on
result from #1, you can understand why something was allowed or blocked.
- If still unexpected, you need to review SITE objects (ie. the individual
pieces that make up web site -- reference URL's, etc). You can't
use IE for this -- but need Firefox with add-on to allow you to view various
links, objects, and media references that comprise a site.

Typically, SITE
contains object (media, image, URL reference) to something that IS blocked, the
8e6 R3000 will block the object -- but not the base SITE.
The best
example of this is blocking QuickTime. Can can visit apple.com site
with movie premiers but all the movies are gone because QT is
blocked. The key messge here: the browser visit to apple's
video site is NOT blocked -- but the objects on various URL's are blocked (ie.
not visible).
