Exinda Sizing Questions

Overview:




Basic Questions:

  1. Is customer requirement (a) bandwidth management, and/or (b) acceleration between locations?

  2. How many locations?

  3. What is bandwidth to each location?

  4. What is connectivity between each location --  (a) private WAN, and/or (b) point to point VPN.  

  5. If VPN used between sites, what is VPN/Firewall vendor on each end?

  6. How many USERS at each location (ie. # of people or devices initiating communication in each location requiring acceleration)?

  7. What type of Internet connectivity exists each location?   Examples:  frame relay, MPLS, etc.

  8. What type of latency exists between locations?   Noet:  this addressed by Exinda WAN memory and caching.

  9. What are top five business-related protocols running on WAN/site-2-site?  Examples:  VoIP/SIP, Exchange/MAPI, File sharing/CIFS, Citrix.

  10. Does any site replication or DR-related communication occur between sites?    Is this encrypted via SSL or other?   



Other Considerations: 

  1. A good opensource tool to simulate WAN conditions (requires machine with two NICs):  WAN Emulator

  2. Good commercial platform to monitor network performance.   SolarWinds Orion
